Magical Wealth
In the town of Kansas City, where Walt Disney drew his first mouse and Joyce Clyde Hall, with two shoeboxes of postcards, began Hallmark, I am inspired by a day of pondering and discussing why creativity and entrepreneurship matter. I also reflect on how, as educators and leaders, we might guide artists to stay true to the integrity of their practice while building mission-aligned ventures.
We had one session where we had to visualize our best selves and stand in the pose we wished to embody. The pose I chose was the one with my pin cushion on my wrist, ready to pick a pin to paint with lace on the form. I met a graduate student who had been so busy studying and teaching that he had not performed music in an ensemble in the way he once loved, so he picked up his clarinet and signed up for a group music performance class.
Now more than ever, I understand the need to create—the human desire to channel emotion into art. It is the most beautiful gift you can give to yourself and the world at the same time. I have started storyboarding The Bygone Fashion Renaissance. What challenge can you give yourself to show up for your inner child who wants to play?

We were at an ancestral home where we were able to sew beautiful fashions.
